We're Expanding Ready-to-Ship (But FREE Custom Sizing Isn't Going Anywhere)

If there's one thing we've heard consistently over the years, it's this: waiting is hard.
When you need a binder, gaff, swimsuit, or a new pair of underwear, six weeks can feel like a very long time. Gender-affirming clothing isn't always a "treat yourself someday" purchase. Sometimes you need a replacement. Sometimes your body has changed. Sometimes you just don't want to wait.
Every piece we make is meticulously made to your personalized measurements and cut and sewn by hand by our tiny team of 4 sewers in Montreal. Offering free custom sizing has always been one of our core values, but custom work takes time. Balancing that level of care with getting garments into people's hands as quickly as possible has always been one of our biggest challenges.
But we’ve been working REALLY hard, so starting this fall, we're making a change we're really excited about. We're expanding our Ready to Ship collection, with more of our everyday essentials available in standard sizes and ready to head out the door in just a few business days. We’ve been adding new RTS products as we create the stock, but by fall we’re hoping to have a full offering of all of our bestsellers in all your favourite neutral colors!
And don't worry: free custom sizing and made-to-order options aren't going anywhere! We're not replacing custom. We're creating more ways to get you the garments you need even faster.
Why We're Making This Change
Waiting Is Hard
One of the hardest parts of ordering from us has always been the wait. We know that, because you've told us.
We know that a lot can happen in six weeks. Bodies change. Old binders wear out. A new job, vacation, surgery, or move can suddenly make you realize you need another garment. Maybe you finally have a little money set aside. Maybe you've been putting off replacing your favorite gaff because you knew you'd have to wait. Maybe you just want a backup so laundry day doesn't become a crisis.
For many people, gender-affirming garments are everyday essentials. They're part of getting dressed, going swimming, exercising, seeing friends, or feeling comfortable in your own skin. And while some customers are happy to wait for a custom piece, sometimes you just need a more compressive binder this week, a sexy pair of underwear for a new relationship, or something to make you feel good at that upcoming event.
We want getting those basics to feel easier. Expanding our Ready to Ship collection means more of the pieces people reach for every day will be available faster, so you can spend less time waiting and more time living your life
We Learned Something Interesting
Over the years, we've gotten very good at reading measurements. And something we've noticed is that many customers who reach out for custom sizing actually fit beautifully into one of our standard sizes.
That isn't because their bodies are "average," and it definitely doesn't mean custom sizing isn't important. In fact, we think it speaks to how much care we've put into developing our size chart over the years.
Because made-to-order has always been our default, a lot of customers choose custom simply because that's what they've always done with us. And we're always happy to make something just for you. But if your measurements fit one of our standard sizes, we want to give you another option.
By keeping our most popular styles in stock, customers who don't need custom sizing can get the same garments they know and love shipped in just a few business days. And by taking those orders out of the custom queue, we can dedicate more time to the people who do need something made specifically for their bodies. More options means more access. And that's something we're always excited about.
We Want Custom Orders to Be Faster, Too
Custom sizing is one of the things we're proudest of. But making a garment just for you takes time. Every custom order involves reviewing measurements, re-checking an individual pattern, losing efficiencies by cutting unique shapes, and changing the threads on machines for all of the variations of colors. But not every black binder or everyday pair of underwear needs that process.
By keeping our most popular basics in stock, we can spend more of our custom production time where it makes the biggest difference: beautiful bodies that fall outside our size chart, disability modifications, unique proportions, special requests, and seasonal or more complex styles.
That means fewer everyday basics in the custom queue, shorter wait times, and more capacity to do what we've always loved doing: making clothing that fits real people. Expanding Ready to Ship doesn't take anything away from custom; it just helps us make it more efficient.
What Is Changing?
More and more, we’re moving towards you having TWO OPTIONS to purchase your favourite products, depending on what works best for your body, your timeline, and your needs.
Ready to Ship
Our full Ready to Ship Basics collection will be made up of our most-loved gaffs, binders, and undies, pre-made in neutral colors and available in all of our standard sizes of XS-5X. These garments will be already made and ready to go, so they ship in up to 5 business days.
Ready to Ship is perfect if you fit into our size chart, need a replacement for a favourite piece, or just don't want to wait. You'll get the same designs, fabrics, and quality you've come to expect from us, just without the production time.
Made to Order
Made to Order with FREE custom sizing isn't going anywhere. In fact, we're excited to have more time to dedicate to it.
If your body falls outside our size chart, you'd like a body-specific adjustment, or you just want more colour options, custom is still here for you. Made to Order is also where you'll continue to find seasonal collections, specialty fabrics, and some of our more complex styles. It's where we can offer the flexibility and creativity that have always been at the heart of Origami Customs.
Made to Order garments will still come with our Perfect Fit Guarantee: if we make a mistake and your piece doesn't fit the way it should, we'll alter or remake it at no extra cost. Because each garment is individually cut and sewn just for you, custom orders will continue to have a wait time, but you'll receive a piece made specifically for your body.
What Isn't Changing
Free Custom Sizing Is Staying
Free custom sizing has been part of Origami Customs since the beginning, and that isn't changing. Custom sizing has never been an upgrade or a luxury to us. It's part of our commitment to making affirming clothing accessible to as many people as possible. There are still no added fees, no size limits, and no fat tax. For any body or any gender.
We know that standard sizes don't work for everyone. Bodies are diverse; they change over time, and they deserve clothing that meets them where they are. Whether you need a different rise, a unique proportion, or measurements outside our size chart, we'll still make garments just for you.
We Still Believe Clothing Should Fit You
Expanding our Ready to Ship collection doesn't change one of our core beliefs: clothing should fit people, not the other way around.
Over the past fifteen years, we've created a size chart specifically for our community. It wasn't borrowed from a big-box brand or built around traditional gendered assumptions. It was developed from thousands of conversations, measurements, fittings, and real bodies across every gender, size, and stage of transition.
Our size chart already reflects the diversity of the people we serve. And for the bodies that don't fit neatly into a chart, or simply need something different, free custom sizing will always be here. Our goal is the same as it's always been: to create affirming clothing that helps you feel comfortable, supported, and at home in yourself.
Everything Is Still Made By Us
Expanding our Ready to Ship collection doesn't mean changing how we make our garments. It just means making some of them before you click "add to cart." We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes on or production methods to be able to do this for you.
We're still using the same fabrics, the same patterns, and the same construction methods. Every piece is still cut, sewn, and checked by our team in Montreal. The same people who make our custom orders are making our Ready to Ship pieces, with the same care and attention to detail.
Nothing about this change means outsourcing, mass production, or cutting corners. It’s just that it’s quicker and more efficient to make ten of one size than one size ten separate times. We're still the same small team we've always been, just finding better ways to get our most-loved essentials into your hands a little faster.
We've Already Started
If you've noticed more Ready to Ship popping up over the last few months, you've already seen this transition in action.
We've been quietly testing and expanding our RTS Basics collection throughout the winter and spring, starting with black versions of some of our most popular styles. And the response has been wonderful! That's what gave us the confidence to keep going. Because while we'll always love making one-of-a-kind pieces, we're just as excited about making everyday essentials easier to access.

What's Coming Next
We're just getting started! Over the coming months, you'll see more of our bestselling basics joining the Ready to Ship collection. Our goal is to keep expanding the pieces people reach for every day, in the neutral and nude color palettes, so it's easier than ever to get your essentials without the wait.
Made to Order, meanwhile, will continue to be where we play. That's where you'll find expanded colour options, seasonal fabrics and prints, special collections, and some of our more complex styles. It's also where we'll continue to make all the unique requests, modifications, and one-of-a-kind pieces that don't fit neatly into a shelf.
Thanks for Being Here
We're really excited about this next chapter. More Ready to Ship styles mean faster shipping, easier replacement of everyday essentials, shorter custom wait times, and more room for the creativity and complex custom work we love. Most importantly, it means more flexibility and more access, because we know that different people need different things.
This isn't about choosing between Ready to Ship and custom. It's about offering both.
Starting this fall, you'll see more Ready to Ship options appearing throughout the shop, while free custom sizing remains exactly where it's always been: at the heart of what we do. Because sometimes what you need is a one-of-a-kind garment made specifically for your body. And sometimes what you need is a black binder that arrives next week.
Thank you for growing with us over the last fifteen years. Thank you for trusting us with your bodies, your stories, and your lives. We're excited to keep making clothing that fits people, instead of asking people to fit their clothing.
